Bugatti Automobiles S.A.S. is a French luxury sports car manufacturer. The company was founded in 1998 as a subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group and is based in Molsheim, Alsace, France. The Bugatti name was first made famous by Ettore Bugatti (1881–1947), who established the original Bugatti automobile brand in 1909 at Molsheim and built sports, racing and luxury cars.
The majority owner of Bugatti Rimac is the Rimac Group, which is led by Mate Rimac. The Rimac Group owns 55% of Bugatti Rimac, while Porsche owns 22%, Hyundai Motor Group owns 11%, and other investors own 32%. Mate Rimac is a Croatian entrepreneur who founded Rimac Automobili in 2009. Rimac Automobili is a manufacturer of electric supercars, and the company has developed a number of innovative technologies for electric vehicles. In 2021, Rimac Automobili merged with Bugatti to form Bugatti Rimac. The merger of Rimac Automobili and Bugatti was seen as a way to combine the technical expertise of Rimac with the heritage and brand recognition of Bugatti. The new company, Bugatti Rimac, is headquartered in Zagreb, Croatia, and it has a production facility in Sveta Nedelja, Croatia.
